Muckenthaler Center 2008
A review by Lianna
Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player,
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage,
And then is heard no more. It is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.
-Macbeth Act 5 Scene 5
Shakespeare himself would have wet his cod piece watching these three “Fakesperian” actors and their on (and off) stage antics. We were privileged to take part in their performance of Cyranose (based, of course, on the play Cyrano De Bergerac by Rostand) at the Muckenthaler Center in Fullerton. The reason that I said “take part” was because these guys completely obliterate the fourth wall! For instance members of the audience (Pam and I were two of the lucky ones) got to read the introduction to the play.
I love improve and I would say that perhaps 80% of the play was scripted and the rest was wonderful, spur of the moment, and I must say HILARIOUS improve!
Now that they are finished at Faire and the Muck they are off to the Lake Tahoe Faire, then a fund raiser in L.A. on June 28th ( Check their web site for information: http://www.soundandfury.org/ ) which Pam and I may attend. Then the lucky sods are off to The Edinburgh Fringe Festival!
Sound and Fury are well worth the price of admission. Their performance is a non-stop hour of laughs, song, homoerotic humor, drag, political and cultural humor and just plain fun! No wonder they were called “The lovechild of Monty Python and Dr. Seuss!
I gladly give Sound and Fury four Wyveries.
